RITUAL CARE FOR COLOURED OR DAMAGED HAIR APPROACHING SUMMER

Now we are in Spring and Summer is on its way, it is extra important to take extra care of our hair especially if it is coloured or sensitised. The intense sun and pollution during the summer months can be extra stressful for our hair and I recommend booking in for a hair ‘ritual’ to help protect and nourish your hair.

After we have coloured our hair, it is more sensitized. But with the right care routine, you should have nothing to worry about! The colour and luster are prolonged, and the hair is protected. Here are my pro tips…

COLOURED HAIR CARE

WHY SHOULD COLOURED HAIR BE TREATED?

During coloration, the hair is chemically transformed, which makes it very sensitive. The depigmentation, without  good maintenance afterwards, can make the hair porous and brittle. If it’s too damaged, the colour will not last a week! This is why coloured and highlighted hair requires special attention.

WHAT TYPE OF SHAMPOO TO USE ON COLOURED HAIR?

My basic advice is: sulfate-free shampoo is mandatory! Indeed, sulfates attack sensitive hair and can bleed the colour. Moreover, I recommend not to wash your hair more than twice a week, to avoid depigmentation. However we can use dry shampoos as it's super convenient! There is a large range of dry shampoos on the market…a must have for every bathroom cabinet! Fine hair, already generally very weak, I recommend a shampoo with keratin that will be soften and support the hair fibres.. Finally, to prolong shine, I would recommend a colour shampoo, it prevents the colour from fading and gives a lovely glossy effect.

OIL FOR MAXIMUM HYDRATION

For colour to last a long time, especially for brunettes and red heads, it is necessary that the hair is in fully hydrated. I love hair oils (recommendation). A few drops are enough, on the lengths and ends, every morning before styling your hair. “And what about if we leave it in all night?” I recommend that it is effective but do not do it often as it will leave the hair greasy, and especially not on oily hair."

PRO OR ARTISAN MASK, ESSENTIAL CARE

There is a fantastic mask from Vegetalement Provence called ‘Masque post-coloration’

https://www.vegetalementshop.com/masque-post-coloration-c2x25872694

which is excellent for taking care of coloured hair. The mask contains shea butter to help nourish the hair as well as essential oils including ginseng and calendula that both promote healthy hair growth for the scalp and prevent your hair from breakage.

One treatment per week and the colour will be protected throughout the summer!

And for uncoloured or ‘virgin’ hair? Long live the do-it-yourself method! A natural homemade recipe of avocado oil, a drop of lemon, 2-3 drops of olive oil and coconut oil deeply hydrates the hair. To apply, tie your hair in a ponytail and apply just below the elastic and do not touch the roots. Rinse after 10 minutes minimum! Et Voila!

DAMAGED HAIR CARE

Finally if your hair is damaged (as well as coloured) it is very important that you invest in a proper hair care regime at home. Invest in a shampoo and conditioner that are reconstructing and ask your hair stylist about Olaplex products. Olaplex have bond building technologies in them, including the No.3 treatment that you can use at home. Otherwise an intensive 'in-salon' Olaplex treatment is available at Sequence Paris. Just ask!

Have a sunny April
